Objective This course has the objective to understand that communication is a process of ideological hegemony and that culture is a practical construction of social meaning. In this course, we try to understand how culture is reconceptualised through the work of the School of Cultural Studies. We will try to follow the historical evolution of the culture industry. And, we will discuss how the popular media of mass build, through the dissemination of mass cultural products, the political, economic and cultural hegemony.
Content (Subject Headings)
Course Learning Outcomes -Understand the political, economic and cultural codes of media sector.
-Know how to analyze the structural properties of the products of popular culture and mass culture.
-Understand how mass cultural products disseminated in the media reconstructs social structures, political and cultural hegemony.
-Learning to approach a critical point of view of popular culture
Teaching and Learning Methods The students are responsible to make given lectures and to make presentations on the culture industry and popular culture using the concepts learned and discussed. Theay are evaluated by their midterm, final exam, participation in classes and presentation.
