Introduction

Programme Profile

The doctoral program is a full-time course of study that aims to carry out research that advances theoretical knowledge and is of immediate and long-range practical significance. The main purpose of study leading to the doctoral degree is to provide the means for continued intellectual growth through advanced and specialized education that emphasizes original research. Finally, the program aims to enable students to integrate theory and appropriate methods in effectively analyzing and solving larger problems of business profession.

Access Requirements

The applicants must have a master’s degree with thesis (exception for the students who enrolled to a master program without thesis by 06.02.2013). Equivalence of international qualifications must be approved by the Higher Education Council (YOK). The applicants must obtain 80 points (equal weight) from ALES (Academic Personel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Examination) and have a minimum GPA of 3.00 over 4.00 on the undergraduate/ graduate level and they must prove their proficiency in English or French. Candidates may take and must obtain at least 80 points in the Intercollegiate Foreign Language Examination (UDS) or in the Foreign Language Exam for Public Sector Staff (KPDS). Candidates who have an equivalent score from internationally recognized exams such as the TOEFL, IELTS, DELF or DALF are also considered to have met the foreign language requirement. To be eligible for this program, applicants must pass an oral and written scientific exam. Weighted score from these tests must be equal to an average of minimum 65 points and it must remain within the quota when grades are ranked from the highest to the lowest.


Programme Requirements and Regulations

PhD degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the compulsory courses and the required number of elective courses in the curriculum on the condition that they have obtained a min average grade of 3.00 out of 4.00. The minimum number of ECTS credits required for graduation is 180.


Recognition of Prior Learning

Students can be exempted from some courses as allowed by the related by laws. If the content of the course that was previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at GSU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the graduate school.

3 Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to develop expertise in the field through information and experience from different sectors, such as production, marketing, management, accounting and finance.
4 Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to have a critical mind and to preserve intellectual independence.
5 Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to combine both advanced level and up to date theoretical and practical knowledge in his/her work.
6 Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to produce original scientific research.
7 Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to use qualitative and quantitative research methods expertly.
8 Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to innovate scientific methods by developing new ones or by applying known scientific methods to new areas.
9 Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to publish and present own work at reputable international conferences and in indexed journals.
10 Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to collaborate for research and education purposes with experts from different nationalities and disciplines.
11 Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the problems between society and the business community, and be proactive in the understanding, investigating and solving of these issues.
12 Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to regard the scientific ethics with uppermost importance while pursuing their future work.

The graduates may pursue their career as academic at the universities or as experts in both public and private sector.

The students graduating from this program may apply to post doctoral programs in their field of expertise.

       A student who has received a letter grade of “AA”, “BA” or “BB” in any course is considered successful. Students who have received a grade of “CB” or “CC” are also considered successful provided that their cumulative grade point average is at least “3.00”. The letter grade “F” indicates “Fail”. The grade “P” is given to a student who successfully completes the PhD Thesis, whereas “F” denotes a failing grade for PhD Thesis. The letter grade “IA” indicates a failing grade caused by the inattendency of the student and the letter grade “NP” indicates the failing grade caused by the non-presence of the student in the final exam.
 
       Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): The total credit points for a course are obtained by multiplying the grade points by the ECTS credits. In order to calculate CGPA the sum of total credit points earned in all the courses taken by a student is divided by the sum of all ECTS credits.
