Introduction
Programme Profile
A graduate from the International Relations Department has solid knowledge on the principal concepts, actors and components of the international system; masters the fundamentals such as history, law, economics, sociology and political science required by the multidisciplinary nature of International Relations; is able to analyze practice on the basis of a well mastered theoretical frame; has acquired the capability of specializing on a particular theme and/or region; interpret and explain foreign policy through its domestic components as well as from the perspective of the international system; has reached the necessary level of competence to be able to undertake a career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as other state institutions and/or the private sector; possesses the required skills to work at various international organizations and NGOs; is perfectly fluent in French and English at academic -with a view to write a thesis/project/book in the field of International Relations- as well as professional level; and has the capacity to utilize methodological instruments acquired throughout the studies at any conceptual and/or academic work.
Qualification Awarded
The students who have successfully completed this programme are awarded the Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations.

This is a First Cycle programme.
Access Requirements
According to the law establishing Galatasaray University and the regulations of Higher Education Council (YÖK), admittance to this program requires success in the central examination system, called YKS; or in the Galatasaray University Student Selection Exam organized exclusively for the graduates of French-speaking high schools. Foreign students are admitted to the program through the GSÜ-YÖS exam. Guest students can be admitted to the program with a special student status if the department gives its approval. As the education language is mostly French, those students who are not French speakers have to attend a year-long preparatory class; and those who already speak French have to succeed in a French language exam.
Programme Requirements and Regulations
The Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the compulsory courses in the curriculum and the required number of elective courses in their chosen area of interest on the condition that they have obtained a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00. The minimum number of ECTS credits required for graduation is 240.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Students can be exempted from a number of courses, according to the existing regulations. If the related faculty decides that the curriculum of a course the student validated in another establishment is compatible with the curriculum of the one thought in Galatasaray University, the student can be exempted from that course.

Occupation Profiles of Graduates
The Department of International Relations aims at preparing its future graduates to careers in a) diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; b) civil service at the public sector as well as in international organizations ; c) communication and the media ; d) the private sector within local and/or multinational firms ; and e) academia through teaching and/or research. The pluridisciplinarity of the Department’s curriculum – via law, history, economics, sociology, theory and practice of IR through thematic and area studies- corresponds to the highest international academic criteria as well as the above-mentioned objectives.
Access to Further Studies
The students graduated from this programme may apply to Master (Second Cycle) programmes.
