Objective Students will (1) acquire knowledge of EU and Turkish legislation on social rights, social inclusion and the duty of care, which are considered to have an important role to play in the European integration process both with member and candidate countries (2) learn about the extent to which the knowledge they have acquired about legislation has been put into practice through the field trips that will be carried out as part of the course (3) have the necessary know-how to express the ideas on the basis of the knowledge they have acquired during the course through creating original video essays (4) have the necessary skills to develop scientific or social projects for the research or solution of the deficiencies they have observed in the field of social rights.
Content This course developed within the framework of the Erasmus + Jean Monnet Module program is based on the 20 principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights adopted by the European Commission to make labor markets and social security practices fair and inclusive. In this course, the historical, social and legislative development of social rights in Europe will be addressed from the perspective of European enlargement, with a special focus on Turkey as a party to the European Social Charter. Students taking this course will benefit from content developed by lecturers from the disciplines of sociology, law, political science, labor economics and communication. As part of this course, which is based on an innovative teaching method, field trips will be organized to workplaces to observe the effectiveness of social rights in Istanbul, and students will be provided with the technical skills, equipment and support needed to prepare a short original video essay on any principle of the European Pillar of Social Rights of their choice. During the first semester of this two-semester course, the historical, social and legislative development of social rights and the principles of the first part of the European Pillar of Social Rights, including equal opportunities and access to the labor market, will be studied.
Course Learning Outcomes Students will (1) familiarize themselves with European and Turkish legislation on social rights, social inclusion and duty of care, which are considered to have an important role to play in the process of European integration, both with member and candidate countries (2) learn to what extent the knowledge they have acquired on legislation has been put into practice through the field trips that will be carried out, (3) have the necessary know-how to express the ideas they have developed on the basis of the knowledge acquired during the course by creating original video essays (4) have the necessary tools to develop scientific or social projects to investigate or solve the deficiencies they have observed in the field of social rights.
Teaching and Learning Methods In this course,
(1) the lecture method,
(2) the field trip and observation method,
(3) the class discussion method,
(4) the creative learning method will be used in conjunction.
