Objective The aim of this course is to have the exchange students specifically aquire the evolution of cinema in Turkey in parallel with the transformations of society. This course aims to give ideas on cinamatografic culture in Turkey and Istanbul.
Content 1 - Visual culture in the Ottoman Empire and its relationship with film screenings
2- Early cinema (Films made and projected in the Empire)
3- Cinema during the post-republican period (Muhsin Ertuğrul's cinema and documentary films)
4- Film projection and analysis
5- American and Egyptian cinema in Turkey
6- The cinema of Yeşilçam and its characteristics
7- Study of an example

9- The effects of the crisis in the cinema of Yeşilçam
10- Turkish cinema and emigration
11- Study of an example
12- The coup d'etat and its effects on Turkish cinema
13- Contemporary Turkish cinema

Course Learning Outcomes To give to the student notions on:
-The sociological and cultural dynamics acting on cinema and on its identity
-The main stages of the history of cinema in Turkey
-The main cinematographic movements, as well as films and directors
-Interactions between films and viewers
