Objective |
The objective of this course is to show that press photography has not lost its importance today and has an important mission for the survival of democratic life; to define and to maintain its importance. |

Week 1. A brief history of press photography with examples Week 2.What makes a photo, a press photo? Week 3. The different styles of expression in press photography Week 4. Professional ethics in press photography Week 5. Introduction to the application and recall questions about digital photography with their answers, "Annie Leibovitz at Work" Week 6. Partiel Exam Week 7. Presentation of the project “Two Continents Two Shores Bosphorus” and the exhibition of photographs taken in the context of this project in 2011 Week 8. Work sharing for students who will participate in the project and expectations for 2013 Week 9. Invitation of a master and his / her evaluation of the project Week 10. Meeting with another master and exchange ideas for the project Week 11.Presentation of a master key to the Turkish press photo Ara Guler, through the book “Photo Correspondent Ara Guler” (Nezih Tavlaş) Week 12. “Camera Lucida” by Roland Barthes Week 13. Course Learning Outcomes |
At the end of this course the student; - Learns how press photography reflects social changes. - Sees photos taken by the masters of the field. - Learns, by meeting the significant masters of press photography, the difficulties of the profession. - Does the practice of what he / she has learned by taking photos for the project “Two Continents Two Shores Bosphorus” which at the same time has a documentary character. |
