Objective | The course objective is to provide introductory information on the international community and its legal organization. The emphasis is on the sources and the subjects of international law and the main goal of the course is to build a solid legal foundation for Public International Law II. |
Content | In this course, two main subjects are examined: sources of public international law (international treaties, international customary law, general principles of law, doctrine, jurisprudence and unilateral acts of States) and subjects of public international law (States, international organizations and legal persons governed by private law). |
Course Learning Outcomes |
1. Students have knowledge of the history and the evolution of international law; 2. Students have knowledge of the nature and the characteristics of the international community; 3. Students have knowledge of the sources of public international law; 4. Students have knowledge of the subjects of public international law and are capable of analyzing their rights and obligations; 5.Students have knowledge of the most significant decisions of the International Court of Justice related to the sources and the subjects of international law. 6. Students are capable of analyzing the international jurisprudence. |
