Objective The main objective of this course is to evaluate Turkish Cinema
according to social events, especially from declaration of Turkish
Republic to present in regard of political and economic
developments. In addition to that, this course aims to examine
thoroughly important Turkish directors and their pieces
Content Week 1. Overall introduction and presentation of bibliography.
Week 2. Pre-republic Turkish Cinema.
Week 3. Muhsin Ertuğrul Cinema and Theater-styled Cinema.
Week 4. Theater-styled Cinema Era and society. (with documentary
footage.)
Week 5. Cinematographic and social features of Transitional Period.
Week 6. Cinematographic Films and society structure.
Week 7. Exam
Week 8.Cinema of Yeşilçam.
Week 9.Characteristics of Yeşilçam
Week 10.Examining one sample of Yeşilçam cinema
Week 11.Reason for Yeşilçam crises
Week 12. Cinema after coup d'Etat
Week 13. Turkish cinema from 1990's to 2000's
Week 14. New cinema from 2000's
Course Learning Outcomes 1. Students meet the important directors and pieces.
2. Students understand that Turkish Cinema showed a parallel
development to social events.
3.Students learn the influence of Turkish Cinema on Turkish
society.
