Objective This course introduces civil-law students to the foundations of Anglo-American legal systems (common law). It explains their historical development, sources of law, methods of interpretation and legal reasoning, and their main judicial institutions.

Course Learning Outcomes By the end of the course, students will be able to:

- Describe the historical evolution of common law systems.

- Identify the main sources of law in Anglo-American jurisdictions.

- Analyse case law (ratio decidendi, obiter dicta, binding precedent).

- Compare civil law and common law methodologies.

- Apply core common-law concepts to simple legal problems.

- Understand the structure of the UK and US court systems.

- Explain the role of judges, juries, and lawyers in the adversarial process.
