Objective This course aims to examine EU cultural, audiovisual and media policies together with their cultural and political economic dynamics from a historical perspective and to analyse the impact of EU policies on the media and communication policies and regulations in Turkey.

Course Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students are expected to:
- assess debates in the 20th century around globalization and nation-state;
- understand European integration process as well as current structure and institutions of the EU and Turkey-EU relations;
- discuss the impact and consequences of European integration process on media and communications;
- explain EU audiovisual and media policies and their legal and financial instruments;
- recognize the connections between regulations and implementations in Turkey on media ownership, copyrights, etc. with Turkey’s accession process to the EU;
- evaluate changes in cinema, music, telecommunications sectors in Turkey within the context of Turkey’s accession process to the EU.
