Objective | Public policy studies consist of the study of the actions of the public authorities within the society. It is interested in the nature and the modes of interventions of the state. It tries to make the demonstration of the complexity and extent of the governmental action. It analyses the processes of emergence, decision formulation, adoption, implementation and the evaluation of the policies. It familiarizes the students with the tools which will enable them to interpret the processes of public decision studying particularly the role of different actors and the determiners of the public action. |
Content | This course is a general introduction the analysis of public policies. It is firstly interested in the concepts and theoretical framework developed to understand the public policies. Later it studies on the processes of emergence, formulation, adoption, implementation and the evaluation of the public policies. |
Course Learning Outcomes |
Following this course the student will be familiar with the ideas, concepts, theoretical frameworks, processes and organization principles of the state action. S/he would conduct a research on a governmental action and on the public policies and will be able to have a judgement on a policy or a governmental program. |
Teaching and Learning Methods |
The pedagogical approach of the course aims teaching the theoretical components of the discipline and the usage of this knowledge on the fieldwork. Concretely: -Lectures of the professor; -Debates on the lectures and examples of public policies; -A policy analysis proposal on a public policy or a program. -Written and oral presentation of the policy analysis. (might be done by groups composed of two students) -Mid-term exam |
