Objective To give a full detailed perspective on the political history of Turkish Republic and Atatürk’s Revolutions within the context of twentieth century politics.
First semester: From Young Turk revolution down to end of Kemal Atatürk’s era.
Content 1. The declaration of "Liberty" and the re-opening of parliament
2. The governments of Second Constitutional Monarchy
3. The First World War and the Fall of Ottoman Empire
4. The period of Armistice
5. Foundation of Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA)
6. The Govenment of TGNA (TBMM)
7. The constitutional system in Turkish War of Independence
8. Midterms
9. Internal security problems
10. Establishment and administration of National Army
11. Turkish War of Independence
12. Peace of Lausanne
13. The purge of "Ancient Regime"
14. Political life in Single-Party Republic and the death of Atatürk
Course Learning Outcomes The student understands the political atmosphere in which the founding fathers of the Republic of Turkey were raised.
The student understands the background of Turkish War of Independence and the political regime in this period.
Teaching and Learning Methods The course is lectured with the presentation historical visual materials. The students are expected to be able to complete the course content with the references.
