Objective | The aim of this course is to develop a general reflection on international security (and insecurity), to discuss the strategies of actors who aim to preserve and ensure their security or to deal with situations of insecurity. Despite the absence of major wars, of the kind of the two world wars, recurrent and infra-state violence is omnipresent on the international scene. In this context, recent examples of international conflicts, as well as attempts to restore peace, will be discussed. The study of the issues will demonstrate the coexistence of a systemic peace on the one hand, and limited and peripheral wars on the other, as well as the interaction of multiple actors who react to a number of threats. |
