Objective | The objective of the course is to familiarize the students with the main theoretical and methodological approaches of urban politics. |
Content | The course focuses essentially on theoretical approaches in the field of urban politics. The following question will be asked: who is involved and influential in urban politics and how political processes in cities shape policies. The democratization of local political life, the participation of citizens to decision making and governance will be discussed in this context. |
Course Learning Outcomes |
LO1. The students will learn basic theoretical approaches in the field of urban politics. LO2. The students will evaluate the importance of citizen participation for the democratisation of local political life. LO3. The students will acquire necessary know-how to conduct a field research. |
Teaching and Learning Methods |
Ten short (3-4 pages) review papers reacting to the week’s readings. Class discussion on the week’s readings. |
