| Objective | This course aims to analyse the evolution of Ottoman criminal law from the early centuries till the end of the empire. The evolution of a criminal act and the concept of punishing in different centuries will be discussed in the course. |

At the end of this course the student can -Criticize the description of crime in Ottoman Empire before the age of modernization. - Analyse the relation between legal thinking and morality in early modern age. -Evaluate the impact of modernization in the definition of crime. -Analyse the process of the reception of “western law” in Turkey in the context of criminal law |
