Objective | By intensive and extensive reading of Bourdieu's work, this course aims to develop an understanding of the distinction of Bourdieu's approach from the other versions of classical and contemporary sociology and social science. |
Content | The course aims to follow a chronology of Bourdieu's work beginning with his Algerian period,works of Ethnology in Kabylia through his studies on education to end with his influence on the intellectual field |
Course Learning Outcomes |
At the end of this course the student will be able to 1. develop a nuanced understanding of concepts as habitus, capital and field, and of their application to the analysis of social fields 2. distinguish Bourdieu's approach from the other versions of classical and contemporary sociology and social science. 3. understand how the development of a specific approach is related to the work of other contemporary researchers 4. develop a view on the structure of theory formation and its relation to historical production 5. discuss the contemporary utilisations of sociological concepts developed by Bourdieu. |
