Objective During the course of this course mass media will be examined as a form of capitalist industrial production and the social and ideological outcomes of its products will be explored through the texts written in the critical political economy tradition.

Course Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students are expected to

1. Develop through understanding of the critical approaches to mass media and communication.
2. Explain theoretical and conceptual premises of critical political economy of culture and mass media
3. Describe how and why political economy of media have a bearing what is produced, disseminated and consumed
4. Critically assess the political economy of media in Turkey
