Objective | The student will learn the historical development of Roman law and its effect on modern continental european legal systems. |
Content |
Basic knowledge on history for introduction to Roman law, the effects of Roman law on modern legal systems and essential legal concepts such as civil capacity and validity of legal transactions will be the subject of the course. This course aims to introduce historical knowledge as an introduction to Roman law, Roman law’s influence on modern legal systems, the concept of competence in law and the validity of legal actions. |
Course Learning Outcomes |
Upon successful completion of the course, the following is expected from the student taking the course: Theoretical - Factual 1. Knows the periods of the Roman state. 2. Evaluates the formation of Roman Law and the stages it went through. Cognitive - Applied 1. Understands the effects of Roman law on Continental European systems. 2. Analyzes the basic concepts of Roman law in comparison with Turkish law. Ability to Work Independently and Take Responsibility 1. Gain a general understanding of Continental European systems and can make comparisons between different legal systems. Learning Competency 1. Be successful in courses such as Law of Obligations, Property Law, and Corporate Law given in the second and third years. 2. Looks at legal problems from multiple perspectives. Communication and Social Competence - Field-Specific Competence 1. With regard to civil law and civil rights, it adopts the principles of equality, justice, fairness and honesty and protects the egalitarian, liberal, secular state of law. 2. Knows the principles of universal law and carries out his profession within the framework of these. 3. As a lawyer, he knows that the practice of law and the activities of creating legal rules are a whole. |
