Objective In this course, it is aimed to examine the concepts of morals and ethics with their historical, theoretical and institutional backgrounds, discuss ethical problems observed in media over current examples, and show the student professional inspection mechanisms.
Content Week 1:Basic Concepts of Ethics; ethics, morals, deontology.

Week 2: Hafta: Basic approaches concerning Ethics; Normative Ethics– Kant, Utilitarianism – Bentham, etc.

Week 3: Media ownership and Media Control

Week 4: Basic ethical issues; Private Life, intimacyve and personal rights etc.

Week 8: Nationalism and Media

Week 9: Juridical News

Week 10:Film viewing and discussion: “Al-Jairee: Control Room” or Uncovered: Tout Sur La Guerre en Iraq: War Journalism

Week 13:New Media and Ethical Problems

Week 14: Some examples of self-control mechanisms in the Press from Turkey and abroad (Press/News Councils, ombudsman)
Course Learning Outcomes At the end of this course, the students shall accomplish the level of knowledge to allow,

-Differentiate the concepts of morals and ethics and their differences from legal norms,

-Have a critical point of view to the current ethical problems of media at an academic level,

-Compare professional inspection mechanisms at an international level to provide solutions to these problems.
