Objective To teach students of various disciplinary and professional backgrounds, with various infrastructures, the historical foundations of the contemporary international system and equip them with the ability to analyze the contemporary world from such a perspective.
Content This course covers a period from the Treaties of Westphalia from 1648 to the end of the Second World War in 1945, and focuses on the evolution of the modern sovereign state system. The wars and peace that have conceived / constructed and destroyed the world, the economic and social crises are studied in an extensive geography (from Europe to the Far East), in the context of various historicities which are different, but which have a certain parallelism.
Course Learning Outcomes The students:
* Acquire a knowledge of the evolution of the discipline of International Relations;
- Learn the historical foundations of the contemporary international system;
- Have the ability to conduct an analysis at both the system level and the actor level.
Teaching and Learning Methods Apart from the narrative part, the content is reinforced by the readings of the documents (besides the selective bibliography) and continues also by a rich audio-visual material. In this sense, each ends with videos / documentaries about the subject of the week.
