Objective Aim of the course is to investigate the political history of the world particularly of the Europe between 1914-1945. The stated years were will be discussed in considering the social, economic and political processes. The course will seek to answer the reasons and results of the world wars.
Content At the first stage, polarization between the countries before the First World War will be discussed by taking into consideration the industrialization and colonialization processes in 19th century. Then, the reasons of the outbreak of the war and the peace treaties after the war will be discussed on.
After handling the October Revolution, the economic, social and political situation of the Europe in 20s and 30s will be discussed in detail. From this point of view, the rising of the totalitarian regimes in Europe and the processes leading to the Second World War and its results will be analyzed.
Course Learning Outcomes Comprehending the reasons for the outbreak of the world wars.
Contemplating on the reasons of power relations and conflict of interests between the countries.
Relating economic and political processes.
Comprehending the changing of power relations between the world countries.
Comprehending the rising of the totalitarian regimes during the interwar period.
Explaining the differences and common points between the totalitarian regimes.
Understanding the October Revolution positioning in world history.
Teaching and Learning Methods During the sessions, the given subjects will be discussed lecture-based. Depending on the subject, supplementary maps and short informing notes to be discussed will be distributed. Attached to these materials, the students will be responsible to write a paper handling a literary study about the discussed period (Spanish civil war, concentration camps, etc.) These papers will be then discussed at the sessions.
