Objective | Explaining the historical development and current situation of the concept of transitional justice with an interdisciplinary perspective. |
Content | The course deals with the legal and political measures taken to rebuild democracy after civil wars or dictatorship regimes. The protection of the rights of victims of human rights violations, the methods of establishing democratic institutions and the rule of law are explained with examples. The main mechanisms used for the determination of past human rights violations are covered. Through examples such as the Nuremberg and Tokyo trials, South Africa, Argentina, Chile, Rwanda, and the Former Yugoslavia, the development of transitional justice in the world is discussed over through court decisions, international and national commission reports and doctrine. |
