Content

Objective

This course aims to examine the European Union as a distinct actor in international relations. It will explore its historical evolution, institutional architecture, main areas of action, and relations with Turkey.

Course Content

The course first traces the formation of the idea of Europe and the main stages of European integration before examining the functioning of the EU’s institutions. It then addresses several major EU policies, including foreign and security policy, migration management, the single market and economic policies, as well as the identity and normative dimensions of European integration. Finally, particular attention is devoted to relations between the European Union and Turkey.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students;
-Understand the historical evolution of the idea of Europe and the process of European integration.
-Analyse the main institutions of the European Union and explain their functioning.
-Evaluate major EU policies in the economic, migration and diplomatic domains.
-Examine relations between the European Union and Turkey from a historical and political perspective.
-Develop critical analytical skills concerning the current challenges and future of European integration.

Teaching and Learning Methods

This course examines the European Union from a historical, political, and institutional perspective.
