Objective

This internal market law course successively analyzes the four freedoms of movement but initially examines the general system of protection of fundamental freedoms in EU law

Course Content

After an introduction which analyzes the reasons for choosing an internal market, as well as the mechanism provided for its protection, it opens with two lessons analyzing the right to freedom of movement of goods.

The freedom of movement of people is then examined in detail.

The freedom of movement of services is then the subject of two lessons, which analyze the regime of freedom of establishment and freedom to provide services. The course successively deals with the main sources of the right of establishment and the right to freedom to provide services, then exceptions and derogations to the free movement of services and finally actions to prevent obstacles to free trade in services. The course continues with the study of the "fourth" freedom of movement: the free movement of capital.

The final subject of the course consists of European Union competition law, antitrust, mergers and state aid.

The case law of the Court of the European Union is widely examined when dealing with the subjects mentioned above.

Course Learning Outcomes

A critical understanding of the EU law principles concerning the four freedoms in common market as well as the complementary role of the EU Competition Law in the functioning of it.
