Objective | To help students to analyze current environmental issues in the global governance, mainly the conservation and sustainable use of the biodiversity and climate change. The course explores the evolution of ecopolitics through the philosophical origins of ecocentrism and anthropocentrism and the transition from a state-level protection to a multilevel sustainable development paradigm. |

Course Learning Outcomes |
1) To explain basic concepts of the scientific and political ecologies 2) To understand the philosophical basis of national and international environmental politics 3) To explain the role of the state as regards the internatiional protection of the environment and the limits of its sovereignty 4) To understand the emergence of international collective action 5) To understand contradictory aspects of different international environmental regimes |
Teaching and Learning Methods | This is a lecture course. The students are compelled to do complementary readings and to make presentations in parallel with the course program. |
