Introduction

Programme Profile

The main objective of the undergraduate level economics program me is to provide students the ability to comprehend and to analyze economic problems such as decision making, the structure and functioning of markets and economies, and public debate about economic policy. To this end students follow the main economics courses such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, banking and finance, theory of money, growth and development. At the same time, they take several courses on mathematics, statistics and econometrics which provide them the necessary tools for a solid scientific analysis.

The students who have successfully completed this programme are awarded the Bachelor’s Degree in Economics

Access Requirements

High school diploma. Placement through a centralised national university placement examination (LYS) (YGS) or Galatasaray University Placement Examination (GSÜÖSYS) that applies only to the graduates of high schools with French as teaching language.


Programme Requirements and Regulations

The Bachelor’s Degree in Economics is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the compulsory courses in the curriculum and the required number of elective courses in their chosen area of interest on the condition that they have obtained a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00. The minimum number of ECTS credits required for graduation is 240.


Recognition of Prior Learning

Students in Galatasaray University can be exempted from sevral courses according to the regulations of the university. If the related faculty or institute decides that the curriculum of a course the student validated in an other institution is compatible with the existing course in Galatasaray University, student can be exempted from the course.


Programme Outcomes

1 Demonstrate a basic knowledge of different economic theories and main discussions driving current theoretical approaches
2 Demonstrate ability to use basic qualitative and quantitative methods to asses different economic questions of applied fields
3 Show a sound understanding of current economic discussions and problems
4 Have an effective and clear communication in written and oral formats in different public and professional contexts.
5 Demonstrate basic knowledge of the world economic history and a sound knowledge of the Turkish economic history
7 Demonstrate knowledge of standard quantitative techniques and empirical models used in economics
8 Show ability to apply basic economic theory to an applied topic
9 Show a basic understanding of analytical methods, both theory- and model-based
10 Show ability to use economic concepts to discuss current economic issues
11 Reason logically and work analytically
12 Show awareness on social aspects of the economics in different applied and theoretical fields
13 Identify appropriate economic models to analyse problems
16 Show understanding of basic statistical and econometric concepts and ability to apply basic concepts to own empirical work
17 Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the current economic issues in Turkey and a general knowledge of the issues in the world economy
